Making the shot is sometimes about trying to be creative and thinking outside the box. The challenge with maternity shoots is that the third person in the shot isn’t quite there yet. Sometimes mothers are comfortable lifting their shirt, sometimes showing skin in public is out of the question.
I really like this shot because it’s all about thinking outside of the box and framing the upcoming bundle of joy. The blue shirt was really challenging since the lack of contrast didn’t show the bump on an 8.5 months belly! We’d done the classic “kissing the belly” shots, but I still wanted the dad in the shot, because making a baby really takes two people who love each other… that’s how the idea of framing the shot came to me – why not make the dad frame the belly?
I love the loving look in the couple’s eyes… the anticipation for the new baby coming… so much fun!
