It’s so special when we get to photograph brides who are friends of previous brides. There’s a sense of trust and friendship that’s already there, and we feel like a part of the family even before getting started! So, without further ado… check out this intimate Sonoma affair! Tovah & Scott are just so much fun – I love the lace dress, the hanger detail, and I’m oh so very proud of getting the hummingbird with the wings! A one of a kind shot for a one of a kind couple!

It is SUCH an honor to receive DIY Weddings Magazine! When we heard the news that Melanie and Chase’s Los Altos History Museum wedding was going to be printed, we did a little (ok, not so little) dance of joy. Seeing it in person is so rewarding!

To see more of Melanie and Chase’s beautiful wedding at this amazing location, check out their wedding photographs. Thanks to Mark at the Los Altos History Museum for an incredible experience and for making their day so special!

Congratulations Jeanette and Nick!
Jeanette and Nick celebrated on a beautiful, sunny day at the Leal Vineyards in Hollister, California. The estate includes gorgeous houses with lovely details – their fun, sunlit celebration was followed by an amazing reception amongst wine barrels; how cool is that? Thank you Jeanette and Nick for having us and congratulations!

What would you do in Paris? I’d take photographs… and in fact, I had the great privilege of photographing Katrina Patchett, French celebrity and winner of Dancing With the Stars Season 1. Katrina is the most talented dancer, and combines elegance with beauty and humor. She’s so much fun to work with! After winning the prime time show, she’s been spending extra time teaching people across the world how to express their passion through ballroom. Of course, she’s also come back for season 2 and came close to winning a second time! She lost to her competition partner, Maxime Dereymez, who you can see below. But wait… could that mean that I also did a celebrity shoot with season 2 winner? You’ll have to come back to find out… ;-)

What makes a wedding magazine worthy? We get that question quite a bit, so we thought we’d talk about what your wedding should have to be published.
Magazine weddings, or editorial style weddings, are very heavily focused on a theme, and on details. These are the three key ingredients to have an editorial wedding.

Picking a theme
The theme of your wedding should be something that is unique and distinguishes your very own sensibilities. It can be inspired by a decade, like a 1940s inspired wedding, by the love a place that is near to you, like a farm wedding, or by an activity or product you really love, like a wine inspired wedding. That theme should be consistent between all the elemtns

Time
If there is one thing you cannot take back on your wedding day, it’s time. Providing enough time for your photographer to take breathtaking photographs is essential! Involve your photographer very early into the scheduling process to ensure you provide the right mix of light and time required to craft truly unique photographs.

Details, details, details
We can’t say this enough: for magazines, it’s all about unique and consistent details. Lots and lots and lots of them. Must haves for magazines:
– a wedding sign (think “wedding over here! reception over here!” sign)
– original lighting – especially for the reception. Think projection against walls, on the floors, on the ceiling
– draping and other dramatic architectural elements
– fresh and colorful floral elements (including bouquets)
– exceptional ceremony elements (decoration around the altar, decoration on the chairs, beautiful end caps, intriguing seating for guests)
– original transportation (think 1940s car, for a 1940s themed wedding)
– unique centerpiece elements (such as dramatic centerpieces)
– interesting flower girl details (hearts instead of petals, unique twist on the basket)
– special presentation of appetizers, foods and desserts served
– themed menus, couple’s magazines, maps to the venue, escort cards/name cards
– elegant men’s details, such as beautiful boutonnieres (think feathers for eg for the 1940s wedding), fun socks, classy watches, and other element
– unique elements such as ice sculptures, special performers
– custom made cake topper

Tara and Sean had a wonderful wine country themed wedding at the California Golf Club in South San Francisco! The California Gold Club offers amazing grounds and views wherever you turn. When you first come in, you are greeted by wonderful rows of trees and a grand entrance. The building presents itself with elegance and grace, and you have to love the welcoming fountain in front!

There are accessible grounds in front and back of the building. For Tara and Sean’s wedding, we even had access to golf carts to roam around and pick our favorite views! That allowed both the bride and groom to take photos with their parties before the wedding without risking their significant other – or the guests – to see them before the ceremony!
The ceremony can be held outdoors or indoors. Tara and Sean were very fortunate to have lovely weather for their ceremony, so they enjoyed a very elegant outdoor wedding overlooking the green fields and trees as far as the eye could see!
After the ceremony the guests enjoyed an open bar with drinks outdoors and indoors. The bar area is situated to the left of the entrance, while the reception area is separated to the right, so that the cocktail hour can happen right next to the reception area, but guests can mingle, talk, take photos at the photobooth that was made available to them, and have fun! This relaxing time gave the bride and groom plenty of time to escape and take beautiful formal shots without being interrupted. A little quiet time after the “I dos” is very precious :)
